>> good morning. i am heather childers. >> i am heather nauert. it is tuesday march the 1st. thank you for watching "fox & friends first". we begin with a fox news alert. southern israel coming under attack from a rocket as president obama continues his tour there. >> he is meeting with mahmoud babbs tod -- abbas today. good morning elizabeth. >> good morning heather and heather. we have gotten word the president has arrived in ramallah.

on the second day of the trip to the region gaza fired rockettes toward southern israel two landing near the town. one of the rockettes landed in a courtyard at the town near the border. the other landed in an open field. there is reports of damage but no reports of any injuries. the gaza strip for some time has been run by the militant group hamas and for the past decade they have fired thousands of rockettes and border shells into the border into israel. no group has claimed responsibility for the attack. the president was in jerusalem at the time. he said early today and yesterday meeting with israeli prime minister prime minister benjamin netanyahu. he will meet with abbas later on today. here is a bit of his conference from yesterday. >> we also discussed the way forward to a two-state solution between israelis and

this 17-year-old shot and injured two police officers and then took off. the officers were responding to a call in a family home of he had a teen. he pulled a gun from his waist band and fired. both officers were hit. they are in stable condition. we know the marines of the killed in nevada. the men from a base in north carolina were training when a mortgager round went off inside the tube. the youngest victim was 19 years old private first class josh martino. he joined in july but he dreamed about it most of his life. lance corporal william wild joined in 2010 following his father's foot steps.

erie. we have a brand new storm system watching could be producing accumulating snow in arkansas and memphis. >> we will check in later this morning. >> let's come down to stories you can bank on today. big changes for the department of defense. as part of the sequester cuts. good morning, lauren. we are talking about civilian employees of the department of defense. that can include men and women who have served our country in uniform who have now come back as civilians. >> it could effect hundreds of thousands of pentagon workers. furlough notices for civilian department of defense attorneys will be today. those are the notices, it will be a little more than a month before they begin their unpaid leave. it is part of the effort to cut spending in the wake of sequestration. the unpaid leaves are expected to start as soon as april 25th. few woeshgs will be exempt here.

they will be taking one day a week unpaid and that works out to be a 20 percent annual pay cut. >> there's a man i know it is happening to he lost a leg fighting for our country in iraq now he's a civilian so he could be furloughed along with many, many others as well. we will keep following that one. talk with us about voters. >> they are nervous about the economy and the debt unlike leaders in washington. they think it needs to be dealt with right now. that's kierd to go a fox news poll released. two-thirds are nervous about the economy. more than twice the number that are confident. they are at odds about the budget deficit. they believe the federal government should be required to balance the budget. and when asked to describe the national debt 68 percent said it is an immediate problem. 27 percent said it's something

>> president obama is meeting with palestinian president mahmoud abbas. good morning leland. >> this is a statement by the hamas militant group they apro the launch of the rockettes or did it themselves saying you can't ignore us. he's talking about the peace process but he is ignoring hamas. this it is something that he continues the theme during the president's first term he tried hard during the big bush. it didn't go anywhere.

he didn't pressure them to come back in a serious way. president abbas is working hard to roll out the red carpet if you will. he has not had a lot of success when it comes to getting a warm welcome here. president of the united states was not well loved is an under statement. we have video of when they put up a bunch of posters to welcome him to ramallah. they set them on fire and graffitied them. they feel the u.s. is not pressuring israel enough. what will happen over the next few hours president obama and president abbas is going to sit down. p palestinians are willing to go

back to the negotiating table. they want the israelis to stop building settle ams inside land that they want the future state. whether or not the israel ryes are willing to do that it unlikely at best. netanyahu said he was willing to come back to the negotiating table and wanted to move forward with the peace process. good word but not a lot of good deeds followed on either side. it is president obama's job to kick start that thing. this seems to be a goodwill trip a whole lot on the images and probably not yet on the deliverables in terms of success coming out of this. >> leland, thank you so much. well the fbi hunting for a killer in colorado this morning. they are searching for more clues on who murdered the director of the state's corrections department right on his doorstep. ainsley air part joins us with brand new details this morning. >> good morning ainsley. >> good morning, heather. that massive manhunt is underway right now.

investigators are looking forl the person who killed the head of colorado's prison system. 58-year-old tom clements was fatally shot in the chest when he went to answer his front door on tuesday night. police believe a woman seen exercising in that area at the time could be a key witness. >> she has been wearing a wind breaker and a hat. she is not considered part of the crime but may have observations that could be valuable to us. >> they have not yet confirmed a motive but are looking into a possible link between the murder and a saudi arabian prisoner. back in 2006 she whe was convicf sexually assaulting and inflating his indonesian housekeeper. they maintained the constriction was not legitimate and asked for his relief so he could go to saudi arabia. the man murdered denied the

production line. now the company is trying to raise money by selling some of the equipment and attempting to restructure nearly $200 million federal loan guarantee. despite the warning signs solo power managed to secure a $20 million tax credit from the state of oregon in september which sold for $13.5 million in cash. in all the state and local investment in solo power is $58 million. oregon officials say it is working saying the companies that received tax credits created 1300 direct jobs and 3,000 indirect jobs in the past six years. critics say the company can't compete with china's cheap costs without tax payer money. it should be going to important things like schools. they haven't met the bench marks required to draw on the $197 million federal loan guarantee. but it wouldn't say what the bench marks are or if the feds
